The Faculty of Health Sciences and Wellbeing at the University of Sunderland will enhance your collaborative, multi and inter-disciplinary career and research profile.

Environment, health and safety roles have become integral to the sustainability of organisations around the world. Increasingly employers require proven expertise in health, safety and environmental systems, an in-depth knowledge of relevant legislation and standards, and the ability to work effectively with others, take proactive measures and communicate with stakeholders. Employees are also expected to be members of professional bodies such as IOSH and IEMA.

Our postgraduate programmes in "Environment, Health and Safety" and "Health, Safety and Wellbeing" are accredited by IOSH and aim to provide you with all the skills and knowledge required for a variety of managerial roles. We run these programmes for more than 20 years and in two modes of delivery: Traditional on campus delivery and distance learning/fully- on line modes. The latter suits employed learners who can study anywhere in the world and flexibly.

A Postgraduate Diploma will enhance your chances for employment in a variety of roles such as:

  • Health and Safety manager or consultant
  • Environmental and Sustainability manager
  • EHS
  • Project leader, adviser or auditor
  • Health, Safety and Environmental manager
  • Waste manager
  • Government Agency (Pollution control) manager

A Master’s degree will additionally enhance your opportunities in more strategic positions, academic roles or further study towards a PhD.
